An Associate Degree will typically require about 18 months to 2 years to finish depending on the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will require more time at up to 4 years to complete. Another alternative for individuals who have previously received a college degree is a post graduate certificate program. If you have received a Bachelor’s Degree in any major or an Associate Degree in a related health sector, you can enroll in a certificate program that will take just 12 to 18 months to complete. One thing to consider is that most ultrasound technician schools do have a practical training component as part of their course of study. When you have graduated from one of the certificate or degree programs, you will then need to fulfill the certification or licensing prerequisites in Michigan or whichever state you decide to work in.

Sonogram Tech Online Colleges

Fife Lake MI student attending online sonography classesAs earlier discussed, nearly all sonogram technician colleges have a clinical component to their programs. So although you can receive a degree or certificate online, a substantial portion of the training will be either held in an on campus laboratory or at a sponsored off-campus facility. Clinical training can usually be satisfied by means of an internship at a local Fife Lake MI hospital, outpatient clinic or family practice. However the rest of the training and classes may be accessed online in your Fife Lake home. This is particularly beneficial for those individuals that continue working while getting their degrees. Plus online programs are frequently less costly than on-campus alternatives. Expenditures for commuting and study materials can be lessened also. But similarly as with every ultrasound tech program you are reviewing, make sure that the online school you enroll in is accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting organizations is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Accreditation is especially important for certification, licensing and job placement (more on accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn away from the classroom in the convenience of your own home, then an online degree could be the ideal choice for you.

Points to Ask Ultrasound Tech Programs

What to ask Fife Lake MI ultrasound technician schoolsAfter you have determined which degree or certificate that you would like to obtain, you can start the process of reviewing and comparing ultrasound tech schools. You may first want to choose whether you would rather attend classes online or commute to a school campus in the Fife Lake MI area. Certainly location will be significant if you decide on the latter, and the price of tuition undoubtedly will be an initial qualification as well. But there are other things that you must also take into account, for example if the programs are accredited and if they sponsor internship programs. So in order to complete your due diligence so that you can arrive at your ultimate selection, below are several questions that you need ask each sonography college before deciding.

Are the Sonogram Tech Schools Accredited? The majority of ultrasound tech schools have earned some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. Even so, it’s still crucial to confirm that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Schools receiving accreditation from the JRC-DMS have gone through a detailed review of their teachers and course materials. If the school is online it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance learning. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with guaranteeing a quality education, accreditation will also assist in obtaining financial aid and student loans, which are many times not available for non-accredited schools. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And a number of Fife Lake MI employers will only hire graduates of an accredited college for entry-level openings.

Are Internship Programs Sponsored? Find out if the ultrasound technician colleges you are interested in have relationships with Fife Lake MI clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Internships are not only a great means to obtain hands on training in a clinical environment, they are additionally a means to fulfill the practical training requirement for most programs. As a secondary benefit, they may help graduates and students establish professional connections in the Fife Lake healthcare community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance available? You will probably want to secure employment quickly after graduating, but getting that initial job in a new profession can be difficult without help. Find out if the ultrasound tech programs you are considering have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with Michigan healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their students are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the College Located? For a lot of students, the college they pick will have to be within commuting distance of their Fife Lake MI residence. Students who have chosen to attend online classes obviously will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. Something to consider is that if you decide to enroll in a college that is out of state or even out of your local area, you may have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges commonly charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges commonly charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of person that likes to sit way in the back of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will probably want a smaller class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the schools you are looking at what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate determination. This will also give you an opportunity to converse with a few of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the sonogram tech program also.

Can the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to verify that the sonographer  college you ultimately choose can offer the class schedule you need. This is particularly essential if you decide to continue working while attending school. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in the Fife Lake MI area, check that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, find out if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would have to carry. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss due to illness, work or family obligations.

    Fife Lake, Michigan

In 1872, J.L. Shaw and others built two small settlements on a lake on the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad. These were known as North Fife Lake and Fyfe Lane, which were on the north and west sides of Fife Lake, respectively. Later, in 1867, these villages united. Today on maps, the divide between the former villages is still clearly visible. The lake was named after William H. Fife of nearby Yuba. Later that year, Fife Lake Township was created.[6] The first church in the village was established in 1884.[7]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.20 square miles (3.11 km2), of which 0.75 square miles (1.94 km2) is land and 0.45 square miles (1.17 km2) is water.[10]

As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 443 people, 189 households, and 110 families residing in the village. The population density was 590.7 inhabitants per square mile (228.1/km2). There were 265 housing units at an average density of 353.3 per square mile (136.4/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 95.7% White, 0.7% African American, 1.6% Native American, and 2.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.8% of the population.
