You will first probably want to choose whether you will attend classes online or commute to a school campus in the Windsor NJ area. Clearly location will be important if you decide on the latter, and the price of tuition no doubt will be an important qualifier as well. But there are other factors that you must also take into account, for instance if the colleges are accredited and if they offer internship programs. Therefore in order to complete your due diligence so that you can make your ultimate selection, below are some questions that you need ask each sonography program prior to making a decision.

Are the Sonogram Tech Schools Accredited? A large number of sonogram tech colleges have acquired some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. Nevertheless, it’s still imperative to verify that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting agencies in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Programs receiving accreditation from the JRC-DMS have gone through a detailed evaluation of their instructors and course materials. If the school is online it can also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online learning. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to ensuring a superior education, accreditation will also assist in getting financial assistance and student loans, which are many times not available for non-accredited schools. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And numerous Windsor NJ employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited school for entry-level positions.

Are Internships Sponsored? Ask if the ultrasound tech colleges you are interested in have relationships with Windsor NJ clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Internships are not only an excellent manner to obtain hands on training in a clinical environment, they are also a means to fulfill the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a secondary benefit, they can assist students and graduates develop professional connections in the Windsor medical community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help available? You will most likely want to hit the ground running after graduation, but getting that first job in a new profession can be challenging without assistance. Ask if the sonographer schools you are assessing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have large networks and good relationships with New Jersey healthcare employers. It also confirms that their students are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the College Located? For a number of students, the college they decide on will have to be within driving distance of their Windsor NJ home. Students who have chosen to attend classes online obviously will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. One thing to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges generally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges frequently charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of student that likes to sit way in the rear of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will likely want a small class size. Small classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the colleges you are looking at what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you a chance to speak with a few of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the sonogram technician program also.

Does the College Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to confirm that the sonographer  school you ultimately select can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially important if you opt to continue working while attending classes. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in the Windsor NJ area, check that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, verify if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would need to carry. Also, learn what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss because of illness, work or family obligations.
