Ultrasound Technician Degree Programs Offered

Cromwell CT ultrasound tech with patientSonogram tech students have the opportunity to earn either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree will typically take about 18 months to 2 years to accomplish depending on the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will require more time at up to 4 years to finalize. Another option for individuals who have previously earned a college degree is a post graduate certificate program. If you have earned a Bachelor’s Degree in any major or an Associate Degree in a relevant medical field, you can enroll in a certificate program that will require only 12 to 18 months to complete. One thing to keep in mind is that the majority of sonographer schools do have a practical training component as part of their course of study. It can often be satisfied by entering into an internship program which numerous colleges organize with Cromwell CT clinics and hospitals. Once you have graduated from one of the degree or certificate programs, you will then have to fulfill the certification or licensing requirements in Connecticut or whatever state you choose to work in.

Ultrasound Technician Online Programs

Cromwell CT student attending online sonography classesAs previously mentioned, almost all ultrasound technician colleges have a clinical requirement to their programs. So while you can obtain a degree or certificate online, a significant portion of the training will be either carried out in an on-campus lab or at a sponsored off campus facility. Practical training can typically be satisfied through an internship at a local Cromwell CT hospital, outpatient clinic or family practice. However the balance of the classes and training may be accessed online in your Cromwell home. This is particularly beneficial for those students that keep working while getting their degrees. In addition online colleges are often less expensive than on campus alternatives. Expenditures for commuting and study materials can be decreased as well. But similarly as with every ultrasound tech college you are looking at, verify that the online program you select is accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting agencies is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Accreditation is especially important for certification, licensing and finding employment (more on accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to attend classes outside of the classroom in the comfort of your own home, then an online degree could be the right choice for you.

Topics to Ask Sonography Colleges

What to ask Cromwell CT ultrasound technician schoolsNow that you have determined which degree or certificate that you would like to obtain, you can initiate the procedure of evaluating and comparing sonogram technician schools. You may first want to choose whether you will attend classes online or commute to a college campus in the Cromwell CT area. Of course location will be significant if you decide on the latter, and the cost of tuition no doubt will be an important qualifier as well. But there are additional variables that you must also take into account, such as if the programs are accredited and if they provide internships. Therefore in order to complete your due diligence so that you can make your final selection, following are some questions that you may want to ask each sonographer program prior to making a decision.

Are the Ultrasound Technician Schools Accredited? A large number of ultrasound technician schools have earned some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. Even so, it’s still imperative to verify that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRC-DMS have undergone a rigorous examination of their instructors and course materials. If the program is online it can also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance education. All accrediting organizations should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a premium education, accreditation will also help in obtaining financial aid and student loans, which are frequently not offered for non-accredited programs. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And a number of Cromwell CT health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry level positions.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Find out if the sonogram technician schools you are evaluating have partnerships with Cromwell CT clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Internships are not only a great way to get practical experience in a clinical setting, they are additionally a means to satisfy the clinical training requirement for most programs. As an ancillary benefit, they may help graduates and students establish professional connections in the Cromwell medical community and help with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help offered? You will most likely want to hit the ground running after graduation, but finding that initial job in a new field can be difficult without assistance. Ask if the ultrasound tech programs you are assessing have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good indication that the schools have sizable networks and great relationships with Connecticut healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their students are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the School Located? For many students, the school they choose will have to be within driving distance of their Cromwell CT home. Students who have opted to attend online classes naturally will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. Something to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a school that is out of state or even out of your local area, you might have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges commonly charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges usually charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the type of student that prefers to sit way in the rear of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will likely prefer a smaller class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the colleges you are reviewing what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you a chance to speak with some of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the ultrasound tech program also.

Does the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must confirm that the ultrasound tech  college you ultimately select can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you choose to continue working while you attend school. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in the Cromwell CT area, confirm that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, check if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would have to enroll in. Also, learn what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss because of illness, work or family obligations.

    Cromwell, Connecticut

The town was named after a shipping boat that traveled along the Connecticut River, which runs along Cromwell. The ship was named after Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England.[2] Other theories are that the town was named after the 1776 warship Oliver Cromwell, or named directly after the Lord Protector Cromwell.[3]

A major north/south highway, Interstate 91, with two Cromwell exits, runs through the Town. The Central Connecticut Expressway (Route 9), opened at the end of 1989, enhances the Town's location as it connects I-95 in Old Saybrook, I-91 in Cromwell and I-84, the State's major east/west highway in New Britain.[4]

As of the census[7] of 2010, there were 14,005 people, 5,212 households, and 3,262 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,038.5 people per square mile (401.1/km²). There were 5,365 housing units at an average density of 432.9 per square mile (167.2/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 93.08% White, 3.13% African American, 0.05% Native American, 1.24% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 1.03% from other races, and 1.47% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.19% of the population.
