Clearly location will be significant if you choose the latter, and the price of tuition no doubt will be an initial qualifier also. But there are additional factors that you should also take into consideration, for instance if the schools are accredited and if they offer internship programs. Therefore in order to perform your due diligence so that you can make your ultimate selection, following are a few questions that you need ask each sonography program before deciding.

Are the Ultrasound Tech Colleges Accredited? A large number of sonogram tech colleges have obtained some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. Even so, it’s still important to confirm that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Programs earning accreditation from the JRC-DMS have gone through an extensive assessment of their instructors and course materials. If the school is online it may also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance education. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to guaranteeing a premium education, accreditation will also help in securing financial aid and student loans, which are many times not offered for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And numerous Glen Ellen CA health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited school for entry-level positions.

Are Internships Offered? Find out if the ultrasound technician schools you are evaluating have partnerships with Glen Ellen CA clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships an excellent manner to get hands on experience in a clinical environment, they are additionally a way to satisfy the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. Is Job Placement Assistance available? You will most likely wish to secure employment quickly after graduating, but getting that initial job in a new profession can be difficult without help. Find out if the sonographer programs you are interviewing have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. It also corroborates that their students are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the Program Located? For many students, the college they select will have to be within commuting distance of their Glen Ellen CA home. Students who have opted to attend online classes naturally will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. Something to consider is that if you decide to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges typically charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges normally charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Large are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of person that likes to sit far in the rear of class or get lost in the crowd, you will undoubtedly prefer a small class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the colleges you are researching what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your ultimate determination. This will also give you an opportunity to speak with some of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the sonogram tech program also.

Can the College Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must verify that the sonographer  program you ultimately select can furnish the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you opt to continue working while attending classes. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in the Glen Ellen CA area, verify that they are available. Also, find out what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss due to illness, work or family obligations.
