Are the Sonogram Technician Colleges Accredited? Most ultrasound tech schools have acquired some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. Nevertheless, it’s still important to make sure that the school and program are accredited. Schools earning accreditation from the JRC-DMS have gone through a detailed evaluation of their instructors and course materials. If the program is online it might also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online education. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with ensuring a superior education, accreditation will also help in obtaining financial aid and student loans, which are many times not offered for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And many Higden AR health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry level jobs.

Are Internship Programs Provided? Find out if the ultrasound tech schools you are interested in have associations with Higden AR clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Ask if the sonographer schools you are considering have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have large networks and good relationships with Arkansas healthcare employers. It also confirms that their students are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the Program Located? For many students, the school they pick will need to be within travelling distance of their Higden AR residence. Individuals who have opted to attend online classes naturally will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. One thing to keep in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a school that is out of state or even out of your local area, you may be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges commonly charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the sort of person that likes to sit way in the back of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will probably prefer a smaller class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the schools you are considering what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you a chance to talk with a few of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the sonogram tech program also.

Can the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must confirm that the sonographer  program you ultimately pick can furnish the class schedule you need. This is particularly important if you choose to continue working while attending school. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in the Higden AR area, verify that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would have to enroll in. Also, ask what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss due to work, illness or family obligations.
