If you have received a Bachelor’s Degree in any major or an Associate Degree in a relevant medical field, you can instead choose a certificate program that will require just 12 to 18 months to complete. One thing to keep in mind is that the majority of sonographer schools do have a practical training component as part of their curriculum. It can often be satisfied by entering into an internship program which numerous colleges sponsor with Chandler AZ hospitals and clinics. After you have graduated from one of the certificate or degree programs, you will then have to comply with the certification or licensing prerequisites in Arizona or whatever state you decide to practice in.

Online Sonogram Tech Schools

Chandler AZ student attending online sonography classesAs aforementioned, almost all sonogram technician colleges have a clinical requirement to their programs. So while you can earn a certificate or degree online, a significant portion of the training will be either carried out in an on campus lab or at an authorized off campus medical care provider. Clinical training can usually be satisfied through an internship at a local Chandler AZ hospital, outpatient clinic or family practice. However the balance of the training and classes can be accessed online in your Chandler home. This is especially convenient for those students that continue working while earning their degrees. In addition online colleges are many times less costly than on campus options. Expenditures for study materials and commuting can be reduced as well. But similarly as with every sonography program you are reviewing, check that the online school you select is accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting agencies is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Accreditation is especially crucial for certification, licensing and finding employment (more on accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to attend classes outside of the classroom in the convenience of your own home, then online classes could be the right choice for you.

Points to Ask Ultrasound Tech Schools

What to ask Chandler AZ ultrasound technician schoolsOnce you have determined which certificate or degree that you would like to earn, you can start the process of evaluating and comparing sonogram tech schools. You may first want to choose whether you would rather access classes online or travel to a school campus in the Chandler AZ area. Naturally location will be significant if you select the latter, and the price of tuition undoubtedly will be an initial qualifier also. But there are additional factors that you must also take into account, for example if the schools are accredited and if they sponsor internship programs. So in order to perform your due diligence so that you can arrive at your final selection, below are a few questions that you may want to ask each ultrasound tech program prior to making a decision.

Are the Sonogram Technician Colleges Accredited? Most ultrasound tech colleges have received some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. However, it’s still important to make sure that the program and school are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Programs obtaining accreditation from the JRC-DMS have undergone an extensive assessment of their teachers and educational materials. If the program is online it might also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online learning. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to guaranteeing a quality education, accreditation will also assist in acquiring financial aid and student loans, which are many times not accessible for non-accredited programs. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And many Chandler AZ health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry-level openings.

Are Internships Provided? Ask if the ultrasound technician programs you are assessing have partnerships with Chandler AZ hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only a great manner to receive hands on training in a clinical environment, they are also a way to fulfill the clinical training requirement for most programs. As a supplemental benefit, they can assist students and graduates establish professional relationships in the Chandler healthcare community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance offered? You will probably want to secure employment quickly after graduation, but finding that initial job in a new field can be challenging without support. Ask if the sonographer programs you are assessing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good sign that the schools have substantial networks and great relationships with Arizona healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the Program Located? For a number of students, the college they select will have to be within travelling distance of their Chandler AZ home. Those who have chosen to attend classes online obviously will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. One thing to keep in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges generally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges often charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of student that prefers to sit way in the rear of class or hide in the crowd, you will likely want a smaller class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the colleges you are looking at what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you an opportunity to speak with several of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the sonogram technician program also.

Can the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must verify that the ultrasound tech  school you finally select can furnish the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you choose to continue working while attending classes. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in the Chandler AZ area, check that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, find out if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would need to carry. Also, learn what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss as a result of illness, work or family emergencies.

    Chandler, Arizona

Chandler is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States, and a prominent suburb of the Phoenix, Arizona, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). It is bordered to the north and west by Tempe, to the north by Mesa, to the west by Phoenix, to the south by the Gila River Indian Community, and to the east by Gilbert. As of 2018, the population was estimated at 257,165 according to the United States Census Bureau.[4]

In 1891, Dr. Alexander John Chandler, the first veterinary surgeon in Arizona Territory, settled on a ranch south of Mesa, studying irrigation engineering. By 1900, he had acquired 18,000 acres (73 km2) of land, and began drawing up plans for a townsite on what was then known as the Chandler Ranch. The townsite office opened on May 16, 1912.

[Soon after celebrating Chandler's Centennial on May 17, 2012, Chandler Museum staff discovered that the City celebrated the wrong date.[5] In May 1912, the Chandler Arizonan newspaper had erroneously published the founding day as May 17, and through the years residents had misremembered the correct date, which was Thursday, May 16, 1912.]
