Even though a number of techs work as generalists there are specializations within the profession, for example in pediatrics and cardiology. The majority work in Bay Minette AL hospitals, clinics, private practices or outpatient diagnostic imaging centers. Typical daily work tasks of an ultrasound tech may involve:

  • Keeping records of patient case histories and details of each procedure
  • Counseling patients by explaining the procedures and answering questions
  • Prepping the ultrasound machines for usage and then sterilizing and re-calibrating them
  • Moving patients to treatment rooms and ensuring their comfort

Ultrasound techs must frequently assess the performance and safety of their equipment. They also are held to a high ethical standard and code of conduct as health practitioners. Ultrasound Technician Degree Programs Available

Bay Minette AL ultrasound tech with patientUltrasound tech students have the choice to acquire either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree will normally take around 18 months to 2 years to complete based upon the program and class load. A Bachelor’s Degree will require more time at as long as four years to complete. Another option for those who have already received a college degree is a post graduate certificate program. If you have earned a Bachelor’s Degree in any major or an Associate Degree in a relevant health field, you can instead choose a certificate program that will require just 12 to 18 months to finish. One thing to consider is that the majority of sonographer colleges do have a practical training element as part of their curriculum. It often may be satisfied by entering into an internship program which numerous schools set up through Bay Minette AL clinics and hospitals. Once you have graduated from any of the degree or certificate programs, you will then need to comply with the certification or licensing prerequisites in Alabama or whatever state you decide to practice in.

Online Ultrasound Tech Programs

Bay Minette AL student attending online sonography classesAs previously mentioned, nearly all sonogram technician schools have a practical requirement to their programs. So while you can obtain a degree or certificate online, a significant portion of the training will be either held in an on-campus laboratory or at an approved off campus medical care provider. Practical training can usually be satisfied by means of an internship at a local Bay Minette AL hospital, outpatient clinic or family practice. But the rest of the training and classes can be attended online in your Bay Minette home. This is particularly beneficial for those individuals that keep working while getting their degrees. Plus online colleges are frequently more affordable than traditional alternatives. Costs for study materials and commuting can be lessened also. But similarly as with every sonographer school you are looking at, check that the online school you ultimately pick is accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting organizations is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Accreditation is particularly important for licensing, certification and finding employment (more on accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to attend classes outside of the classroom in the comfort of your own home, then an online school may be the right option for you.

Subjects to Ask Ultrasound Technician Colleges

What to ask Bay Minette AL ultrasound technician schoolsOnce you have determined which certificate or degree that you would like to earn, you can initiate the process of evaluating and comparing ultrasound tech colleges. You may first want to decide whether you would rather attend classes online or commute to a college campus in the Bay Minette AL area. Certainly location will be significant if you choose the latter, and the cost of tuition no doubt will be an important qualification also. But there are other factors that you must also take into account, such as if the schools are accredited and if they offer internship programs. Therefore in order to perform your due diligence so that you can arrive at your ultimate selection, following are some questions that you need ask each sonographer program before deciding.

Are the Sonogram Technician Colleges Accredited? Most ultrasound tech colleges have obtained some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. Nevertheless, it’s still imperative to make sure that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting agencies in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Schools earning accreditation from the JRC-DMS have undergone a detailed review of their instructors and course materials. If the college is online it can also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online learning. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to ensuring a quality education, accreditation will also help in getting financial assistance and student loans, which are often not accessible for non-accredited programs. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And a number of Bay Minette AL health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited school for entry-level positions.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Find out if the ultrasound tech colleges you are evaluating have partnerships with Bay Minette AL clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships an excellent means to get practical experience in a clinical environment, they are also a way to fulfill the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a secondary benefit, they can help students and graduates form professional connections in the Bay Minette health care community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help offered? You will undoubtedly want to secure employment quickly after graduating, but getting that first job in a new profession can be challenging without support. Ask if the ultrasound tech schools you are assessing have job placement programs and what their success rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good sign that the schools have large networks and good relationships with Alabama healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their students are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the School Located? For a number of students, the school they decide on will have to be within commuting distance of their Bay Minette AL residence. Students who have opted to attend classes online naturally will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. One thing to consider is that if you decide to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges usually charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges usually charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the kind of person that prefers to sit way in the back of class or get lost in the crowd, you will undoubtedly prefer a smaller class size. Smaller classes allow for more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the colleges you are looking at what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you a chance to speak with some of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the sonogram tech program as well.

Can the School Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to verify that the ultrasound tech  program you ultimately choose can provide the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you decide to continue working while attending school. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in the Bay Minette AL area, make certain that they are available. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, verify if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would need to enroll in. Also, ask what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss because of illness, work or family obligations.

    Bay Minette, Alabama

In the first days of Baldwin County, the town of McIntosh Bluff (now in Mobile County, west of Baldwin County) on the Tombigbee River was the county seat. After being transferred to the town of Blakeley in 1810, the county seat was later moved to the city of Daphne in 1868. In 1900, by an act of the legislature of Alabama, the county seat was authorized for relocation to the city of Bay Minette; however, the city of Daphne resisted relocation. The citizens of Bay Minette moved the county records from Daphne in the middle of the night on October 11–12, 1901[4] and delivered them to the city of Bay Minette - where the Baldwin County seat remains to this day.[5] A mural for the new post office built in 1937 was commissioned by the WPA and painted by Hilton Leech of Bridgeport, Connecticut, to commemorate this event.[4]

In September 2011, the town attempted to enact a program called "Operation Restore Our Community". It would have allowed those convicted of a misdemeanor to substitute imprisonment with mandatory church attendance for one year.[6] However, this program was challenged due to violating separation of church and state, and the program's start was delayed for judicial review.[7] It appears to have been scrapped.

U.S. Route 31 passes through the center of the city, leading south to Spanish Fort and northeast to Atmore. Interstate 65 passes about 5 miles (8 km) north of the city, with access from exit 34 (State Route 59) and exit 37 (State Route 287).
